Sample Page (Louisa, Mary, Timmy, Melissa, JoAnna and Bobby enter and sit on the floor. Louisa begins to write a letter) Dearest Daddy, We miss you so much we can hardly stand it! Bobby has cried every night. Bobby: Don't tell him that! He'll think I'm a baby! Louisa: Oh, all right. (erasing) What should I say? Mary: You can tell him that mama cries every night. That would be okay. Timmy: Yeah, he already knows that she cries a lot. Louisa: But won't that make him sad--that mama cries? Melissa: If he thinks mama is sad, maybe he will figure out some way to come home. Louisa: I don't think he can come home until some general or other says he can. Joanna: You mean Daddy has to mind somebody? Louisa: Uh huh. Let's just tell him......(writing )The sun is a whole lot dimmer without you. He'll know what that means. Song #4 You Are My Sunshine (younger kids) (Kids exit stage right as a soldier enters stage left, sits on a cot, and begins to write a letter. A bugle is playing in the background.) Dear Betty and David, How is everything at home? I hope you are taking good care of Mom, and doing your chores! I know she is depending on you to help her while I am away. You asked me what is was like on an army base. Well, you know how mom sings while she works? Well, I've got this sargeant with the biggest lungs. He's always singing some tune or other right in my ear. And you know how I wanted to lose weight and get more exercise--well the food here is perfect for squelching ones appetite, and I've gotten so much exercise I've lost 10 pounds! The best part is the great alarm clock we have here. I know you would like him--in fact I wish I could send him to you! Love, Dad Song #5: Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy (older girls or adults) |
