Go Tell It

A children's Christmas program that is set up like a radio show. The show opens with the choir singing Go Tell It On the Mountain. A young shopper tries to explain the song's meaning to a friend and discovers that to do it he must explain what Christmas is all about.

Choir enters singing Go Tell It On the Mountain (chorus) and gets into position. Readers are down front, on stools, with mikes.

Announcer: (as kids hum) At the top of the hour, we are pleased to bring you the Christmas crowd pleaser,"Go Tell It." >salvation army bell< The scene opens on a bustling town square where shoppers laden with packages make their way in and out of the shops decked out for the holiday season. There is a nip in the air that could make one believe that the ground could be white before another day is past. A group of carolers are center stage on the square filling the air with familiar Christmas melodies. Two young window shoppers, Jamie and Morgan, are taking in the sights and sounds. (Kids sing one more chorus)

Jamie: Hey, what are they singing about? Who's born?

Morgan: Weren't you listening? Jesus Christ.

Jamie: Who?

Morgan: You know, "Jesus is the reason for the season." (pause--no response from Jamie) "Keep Christ in Christmas"? (still no response) You do celebrate Christmas, don't you?

Jamie: Yeah, sure. We have a tree and lights, and we baked Christmas cookies just yesterday. We have a huge pile of presents under the tree already, and Mom said she wasn't done shopping yet! >cash register<

Morgan: But I get the feeling you don't know about the greatest present of all.

Jamie: What is it? There still may be time to add it to my Christmas list!

Morgan: The present isn't an "it", it's a "He."

Jamie: A "He?" Hey wait a minute, my mom already said "N-O" to a puppy. >bark<

Morgan: It's not a puppy..... You don't have to get home right away, do you? 'Cause this is gonna take a while to explain. ...Way, way back, the nation of Israel, God's chosen people, were looking for a Messiah--

Jamie: A what?

Morgan: A messiah, a savior-- someone who would come and set things right....
